What is the best day to go thrifting at Goodwill? ›

Wondering when thrift stores like Goodwill restock? Tuesdays are terrific for those in the know—often, this is when a Goodwill store refreshes its inventory and rolls out new items that weren't on shelves over the weekend.

You've probably been asked if you want to “round-up” when you are buying something at Goodwill. Those round up funds go into restricted accounts that help our programs serve needs that fall outside the scope of our regular programs.

Goodwill serves those with barriers to employment. This includes individuals with disabilities, people with limited work history, those who have experienced corporate downsizing and recipients of government support programs. Goodwill's services are designed to meet the training and placement needs of the individual.

Does Goodwill clean donated items before placing them on the sales floor? We do not wash clothing items; we do wipe down household items.

Most secondhand stores don't wash the clothes before selling them. Donations are typically washed before they're donated, but we still recommend giving them a good cleaning when you get home. Even if the clothes are washed before they hit the thrift store floor, people will have since touched them.

On occasion, we do feature merchandise in our store that is ” New” and therefore, we do very little discounting of this merchandise. In our stores these ” New” items are called ” Buy Outs” and are marked with a Purple Tag to make them easier to identify.

Thrift shopping at Goodwill often feels like treasure hunting, because you never know what ” hidden gems” you might find! Our inventory is updated every day with donated clothing, accessories, jewelry and household goods, all priced at a fraction of their original value.

Goodwill stores operate on an endless cycle: people bringing donations, employees putting them on the floor and customers swooping in. The inventory changes just about every day. If you ever strike out, then try visiting another day.

Stores also generally mark down items that will be on sale over the weekend on Thursday evenings. If you want to beat the rush and get to those sales items first, Thursday night's a great time for bargain shoppers to hit the malls.
