The recent class action lawsuit against Zyn revolves around allegations related to its marketing and labeling practices. Zyn, a popular brand known for its nicotine pouches, faced legal scrutiny over claims that its products were falsely advertised as a safer alternative to traditional tobacco products.

Philip Morris, which sells Marlboro cigarettes outside the US, acquired Zyn maker Swedish Match in 2022 with a $16 billion takeover, giving it a US distribution network and new smoke-free products.

But the nicotine in Zyn pouches is highly addictive and it may increase cardiovascular disease risk in people not already using nicotine products, Rees said. “Teens and young adults who do not smoke or vape should avoid this product,” he said.
