Lebara EU roaming - after Brexit

Lebara roaming explained for international & EU countries (2)

With Lebara, all plans include free EU roaming, which allows you to use your regular allowance within 35 European destinations at no additional cost.

You will be able to use your allowances as if you were at home, including data, minutes and texts.

Despite Brexit, Lebara do not have any plans to introduce EU roaming charges.

If you have an unlimited data plan, the maximum amount you can use per month in the EU is 30GB - if you need more than this, you can buy a 5GB data add-on for £10.

In accordance with the fair usage policy, your roaming usage cannot be greater than your average UK usage within a 120 day period. If Lebara believes your EU roaming usage is greater than your average UK usage, you will receive a warning, followed by a surcharge:

  • 0.04p per second for outgoing calls (equivalent to 2.4p per minute)
  • 0.01p per second for incoming calls (equivalent to 0.6p per minute)
  • 0.8p per SMS

The maximum amount you can be charged when roaming is £42 per month (deducted from any pay as you go credit that you may have), after which your services will stop working until you contact Lebara to remove the limit or wait for the next monthly billing period.

Lebara SIM for Roaming

Lebara offers SIM cards that include free EU roaming, allowing users to use their regular allowances within 35 European destinations at no additional cost. These SIM cards work with all phones, including popular models like the Samsung Galaxy S23 and Apple iPhone 15.

Lebara EU Roaming after Brexit

Despite Brexit, Lebara does not have any plans to introduce EU roaming charges. All Lebara plans still include free EU roaming, allowing users to use their regular allowances within 35 European destinations at no additional cost. This includes data, minutes, and texts. However, there are fair usage policies in place to prevent excessive usage. For example, if you have an unlimited data plan, the maximum amount you can use per month in the EU is 30GB. If you need more than this, you can buy a 5GB data add-on for £10.

Lebara Free Roaming in India

If you're traveling to India, Lebara allows you to use your regular data allowance for free. However, there are limitations for calls and texts. You will be limited to 200 minutes and 200 texts within India and back to the UK, regardless of your regular allowance. If you go over this limit, you will be charged 10p per minute and text, which will come out of your pay-as-you-go allowance. Additional data can be purchased through a 5GB data add-on for £10.

Roaming Outside the EU with Lebara

Lebara allows roaming in most countries outside the EU, but regular allowances cannot be used in these countries (except for India). Instead, users will be charged at an out-of-plan rate, which varies depending on the country being visited. The maximum amount that can be charged when roaming is £42 per month, deducted from any pay-as-you-go credit. Once this limit is reached, services will stop working until the limit is removed or the next monthly billing period begins. The rates for calls, texts, and data vary depending on the country and zone. Countries are divided into zones, and the rates depend on the zone the country belongs to.

Lebara Zones

Lebara divides countries into different zones, which determine the rates for roaming. The zones are as follows:

  • Lebara Zone 1: This zone includes 35 European destinations, where users can roam for free with their regular allowances.
  • Lebara Zone 1 EEA: This zone includes additional European Economic Area countries, where users can also roam for free with their regular allowances.
  • Lebara Zone 2: This zone includes countries like Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, San Marino, Taiwan, and Thailand, among others. Different rates apply for calls, texts, and data in this zone.
  • Lebara Zone 3: This zone includes countries like Albania, Andorra, Bosnia, Canada, Faroe Islands, Monaco, Switzerland, USA, Vatican City, and more. Different rates apply for calls, texts, and data in this zone.
  • Lebara Zone 4: This zone includes countries like Afghanistan, Algeria, Angola, Argentina, Brazil, China, Egypt, India, Japan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and many others. Different rates apply for calls, texts, and data in this zone.

5G and Data Bolt-ons

5G is only available within the UK with Lebara. When roaming, the maximum signal you will receive is 4G.

If you run out of data while roaming in the EU or India, or if you exceed the 30GB limit for unlimited data plans, you can purchase a 5GB data bolt-on for £10. This bolt-on will last for the remaining month. You can purchase the data bolt-on from your Lebara account or by texting "5GB" to 38885. It's worth noting that there is also a 1GB data bolt-on available for £3, but it only works within the UK and cannot be used for EU roaming.
