Edit your photos - Computer (2024)

Add filters, crop photos, and more on your mobile device or computer. To edit photos on your mobile device, use the Google Photos app. Some features aren't available on mobile web.

Tip: If you have backup turned on, your edits will sync to your Google Photos Account.

Tips:

  • Some editing features aren't available on the web. If you can’t find an editing feature on the web, try using the Google Photos app on Android or iOS.
    • If you’re using your web browser on Chromebook and can’t find a feature, check the Photos Android app. Learn how to edit your photos with the Photos app on ChromeOS.

Use suggested edits

Important: Your device must have at least 4 GB RAM.

Edit options are based on the type of photo you want to edit, which you can apply with one click.

  1. On your computer, go to photos.google.com.
  2. Open the photo that you want to edit.
  3. At the top, click Edit Edit your photos - Computer (1).
  4. To apply a suggested edit, click the suggestion name.
    • For example, click Enhance Edit your photos - Computer (2).
  5. To undo changes, click the suggestion name again.
  6. When you're finished, click Save.

Crop or rotate a photo

  1. On a computer, go to photos.google.com.
  2. Open the photo you want to edit.
  3. At the top, click Edit Edit your photos - Computer (3).
    Tip: While you edit, click and hold the photo to compare your edits to the original.
  4. To crop or rotate, click Crop & rotate Edit your photos - Computer (4).
    • To crop the photo, drag the edges.
    • To rotate the photo, at the top, click Rotate Edit your photos - Computer (5).
  5. At the top, click Save.

Tip: Your edits will be applied to the photo, but you can undo them at any time.

Use tools

  1. On a computer, go to photos.google.com.
  2. Open the photo you want to edit.
  3. At the top, click Edit Edit your photos - Computer (6) Edit your photos - Computer (7) Tools Edit your photos - Computer (8).
  4. Select the tools that you want to use with your photo.
  5. Make changes.
  6. When you're finished, click Save.
  7. To undo an effect, select the tool and click Revert.

Available tools

Important: Your device must have at least 4 GB RAM.

  • To adjust the position and brightness of light to portraits of a person, click Portrait light Edit your photos - Computer (9).
  • To adjust background blur, click Blur Edit your photos - Computer (10).
  • To select from several palettes and adjust the color and contrast in the sky, click Sky Edit your photos - Computer (11).
  • To desaturate the background, but keep the foreground in color, click Color pop Edit your photos - Computer (12).

Tip: Tool options depend on your photo. Some tools may not be available for all photos.

Adjust photos

  1. On a computer, go to photos.google.com.
  2. Open the photo you want to edit.
  3. At the top, click Edit Edit your photos - Computer (13) Edit your photos - Computer (14) Adjust Edit your photos - Computer (15).
  4. Select the type of effect that you want to apply to your photo.
  5. Move the dial to make changes.
  6. When you finish, click Save.
  7. To undo an effect, deselect the option.

  • To adjust the difference in tones, click Contrast Edit your photos - Computer (17).
  • To adjust the brightest value, click White point Edit your photos - Computer (18).
  • To adjust the darkest value, click Black point Edit your photos - Computer (19).
  • To adjust the detail in the brightest areas, click Highlights Edit your photos - Computer (20).
  • To adjust the detail in the darkest areas, click Shadows Edit your photos - Computer (21).
  • To adjust the intensity of colors, click Saturation Edit your photos - Computer (22).
  • To adjust the color temperature, click Warmth Edit your photos - Computer (23).
  • To adjust the hue, click Tint Edit your photos - Computer (24).
  • To adjust the saturation of the skin-colored tones, click Skin tone Edit your photos - Computer (25).
  • To adjust the saturation of the blue tones, like sky or water, click Blue tone Edit your photos - Computer (26).
  • To adjust the local contrast of edges, click Pop Edit your photos - Computer (27).
  • To reduce the brightness around the edges of the photo, click Vignette Edit your photos - Computer (28).
  • To enhance brightness and contrast across the image for a more balanced photo, click HDR effect Edit your photos - Computer (29).

Add a filter

  1. On a computer, go to photos.google.com.
  2. Open the photo you want to edit.
  3. At the top, click Edit Edit your photos - Computer (30) Edit your photos - Computer (31) Filters Edit your photos - Computer (32).
  4. Select a filter.
  5. To change the strength of the filter on the photo, move the dial.
  6. When you finish, click Save.
  7. To undo a filter, click None.

Change date & timestamps

Important: You can change the date and timestamps for photos and videos on your computer. When you change the date and time of your photo, the edited date and time displays in Google Photos. But if you share the photo to other apps or download it, the photo may show the original date and time saved by your camera.

  1. On your computer, go to photos.google.com.
  2. Place your cursor over a photo or video.
    • To select the items you want to update, click Select Edit your photos - Computer (33).
  3. At the top, click More Edit your photos - Computer (34).
  4. Click Edit date & time. If you selected more than one item, you'll find two options.
    • To specify a date and time for the first item and automatically adjust the dates and times for the other items as relative to that, click Shift dates & times.
    • To set the same date and time for all the items you selected, click Set one date & time.
  5. To finish, follow the on-screen instructions.

Tip: Photos taken before 4 AM are sorted into the previous day.

Undo edits

  • On your computer, go to photos.google.com.
  • Open the photo with edits you want to remove.
  • Click Edit Edit your photos - Computer (35).
  • Click Revert Edit your photos - Computer (36) Save.
